Placement dates

•  1st September to 21st December or 15 th  January

Please note that we work with hosts to establish start and finish dates for placements in each programme. However, exact end dates may vary somewhat from placement to placement and year to year. On arrival at your placement, you should receive guidance and training on your role and responsibilities, and you should take this opportunity to establish when your host expects you to finish. State secondary school for gifted students in Binh Thuan province.

Volunteers duties

To improve the communication skills of the pupils and improve the English of the English teaching staff. Vols will teach from Grade 10 to Grade 12. The classes typically have about 35 pupils.

Vols and Vietnamese teachers will co-teach.

Volunteers will usually teach about 20 hours per week.

Accommodation and food

Accommodation is on the campus. Well appointed. Two good sized rooms with good facilities.


There is a canteen in the school. Volunteers receive 4,000,000 VND per month!

Financial allowance

There is an additional allowance of 1,000,000 VND per month.

Suitable clothing

Vietnam is a reasonably conservative country and both male and female Lattitude volunteers should dress appropriately at their placements. As teaching assistants, Volunteers need to dress in professional attire and not as backpackers. Blouses, tops (no strappy singlets), knee-length skirt and trousers are good choices for females and collared tops and neat trousers are required for males.

Other information

• Good bus service (5.5 hrs) to HCMC. 
• Mui Ne (15 km north of Phan Thiet city) is a seaside resort popular with the Vietnamese and
   Foreigners. Phan Thiet city is small but animated and there is an attractive beach.  

   There are restaurants, markets, shops, clinics, ATMs.  There is a train connection with HCMC.  Vols 
   need to accept that it is not Saigon, but it is cheerful, colourful and very pleasant.  Note that a 
   pleasant breeze often blows in off the sea.
• Phan Thiet city of Binh Thuan province is located 198 km North East of Ho Chi Minh city. It takes 4 and
    half hours to get to Ho Chi Minh city by car. Mui Ne, one of the most famous tourist site in Vietnam
    with very beautiful beaches and sand hills is located just 15 km North of Phan Thiet city. Phan Thiet
    city is about 140 km East of Da Lat city, 250 km South of Nha Trang city and 160 km North of Vung Tau
    city. Da Lat city, Nha Trang city and Vung Tau city are all famous tourist sites in Vietnam. Living in
    Phan Thiet city, volunteers can enjoy city beach which is very close to the guest house, or spend
    their free time at Mui Ne. On the weekend or one week off, they can go to many famous tourist
    sites arround the city.
• Many internet cafés. Internet access in rooms.
• This has been a very caring and comfortable placement.
